We are thrilled you want to volunteer with us. Our volunteers are the backbone of our rescue. We can't wait to introduce you to our organization and the team that makes it all happen. To volunteer you must be 16, to volunteer under 16 you need an adult over 18 to come in and volunteer with you.
We love to help with Silver Cord Hours for school, too!

Supplies and monetary donations are always appreciated. You can drop off while we are open or use the donation bin by the front door.
Check out our help us page for more information on ways to donate. You can use the donate button located on each web page too! Gift certificates are always great for us to be able to celebrate birthdays or milestones for some of our adoptable pets to feel special that day.
We participate in several events in the community. Join us! Help us get the word out about the events on social media, your work, church, school . . . anywhere you meet up with people. We often need help at these events. Let us know you're available to pitch in.
Having a birthday or any other party where the gifts are for the shelter is a nice gesture. Create your own Facebook fundraiser to benefit the Des Moines County Humane Society. We encourage all parties interested in fundraising on behalf of the DMCHS to contact us prior. We reserve the right at all times to refuse, reject or refund donations that do not meet with our mission or our standards.
Share posts on social media. When friends and family are looking to add a pet to their family, send them to us.
Our Facebook page usually has info for events, adopted pets, and our adoptable pets.
Dogs need walked and loved daily here, being cooped up in a kennel over night gives them the zoomies. We have a fenced in back area now so they can zoom away!
Cats need human attention and affection to get them ready to be the best lap cat ever. Come in and play with them, they also love to have books read to them!
Lots of rescues are in need of transportation to transport dogs and cats to other rescues.
Help us with the daily cleaning done at the shelter. This is an important part of keeping the shelter up and going with no diseases. Lots of protocols to follow and lots of kennels to clean. With that said if you would like to help in this area please be able to come in once a week at least, since you do know the protocols.
Instead of adopting through a breeder or pet store, adopt one of our amazing animals. Your life will never be the same!
Our adoption fees only cover the vet costs to get your pet current and ready to thrive. Even getting a free pet is more costly than our adoptable pets with all the vetting done for the first year. Pets need shots yearly to stay current and help them thrive.
